Deebo Samuel could return to practice as early as Thursday, says San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. Of course, that all depends on how today goes.
“I think he has a chance to practice tomorrow,” Shanahan told reporters before the first full practice of the week. “It depends on how today’s workout goes and stuff.”
Shanahan provided other injury updates during today’s pre-practice press conference, including an update on the quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who had his cast removed this week. Does the coach have a better idea regarding Garoppolo’s timeline to return to the field?
“No. Nothing’s changed with that,” Shanahan replied. “He just got the hard cast off, so he’s not able to move around and do stuff yet. They’re still in the training room process, not out on the field or anything. So not much has changed.”
Garoppolo was spotted in the locker room, getting around with the assistance of a scooter, obviously unable to put a lot of pressure on the broken foot he sustained on December 4.

The coach also provided an update on defensive tackle Kevin Givenswho is expected to be ready for the playoffs.
“He’s on schedule for that,” Shanahan said.
Givens suffered an MCL sprain against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on December 11.
Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw will not practice today, but not because of any setback in his knee.
“That was the plan all along,” Shanahan noted. “We’re going to have him go full tomorrow.”
Report it.

Kyle Shanahan provides injury updates on Deebo Samuel, Elijah Mitchell, several others ahead of 49ers-Raiders
For only the fourth time this season, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan stepped up to the podium after a game and did not have any injuries to report. Running back Jordan Mason and cornerback Charvarius Ward appeared to sustain injuries against the Washington Commanders. However, the coach did not name them in the post-game injury report, indicating that the team was not concerned about either. Both players returned to the game, with Mason playing 16 more snaps on special teams after the scare on the opening kickoff and Ward returning in the fourth quarter after experiencing some nausea and being examined for a head injury. On Monday, two days after the game, Shanahan spoke with reporters via a conference call, providing injury updates. One of the

49ers’ Kyle Shanahan provides an injury update on Deebo Samuel
The San Francisco 49ers have three games remaining before their first playoff game. They have already clinched the NFC West. While the no. 2 seed could still be in play, head coach Kyle Shanahan wants to be strategic and careful with his banged-up players, ensuring that his team is as healthy as it can be come postseason action. The 49ers expected wide receiver Deebo Samuel to get back onto the football field before the end of the regular season. He suffered MCL and ankle sprains during Week 14’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Depending on what happens over these next three games, San Francisco might opt to rest its star receiver until the playoffs. Of course, if the situation were different and the 49ers were still fighting for a playoff spot, there might be

Glazer: 49ers holding out hope that Jimmy Garoppolo can return for playoffs
There is a slight chance that we could see Jimmy Garoppolo one more time as the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback. He is slated to become a free agent after the season. Garoppolo could return to the football field with the 49ers if the team makes a deep enough playoff run. Although, head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have admitted that it is not something the 49ers are optimistic about. Still, the door has not been closed on the possibility, which explains why the veteran quarterback has not landed on the injured reserve list. On Thursday, Lynch provided an update on Garoppolo during his interview on KNBR. “That’s a hard one to

Shanahan: 49ers to activate Javon Kinlaw off IR ahead of Commanders game; Deebo Samuel, Elijah Mitchell ‘right on track’
Javon Kinlaw must have had a fantastic two days of practice. The San Francisco 49ers plan to activate the defensive tackle ahead of Saturday’s game against the Washington Commanders. Kinlaw has not played since Week 3 due to a setback in his surgically reconstructed knee. “I expect him to be up (for Saturday),” head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after Thursday’s practice. “He had a real good [Wednesday] practice. … Everything was light today, but he had a good week. No setbacks, and real excited to see him out there.” Kinlaw has only appeared in seven games over the last two seasons. However, the 49ers hope he can return, play at a high level, and make an impact down the stretch, including in the playoffs. This week, reporters have seen Deebo
