Brock Purdy doesn’t lack confidence. That much is clear. Even after watching every NFL team repeatedly pass him over in the draft until the San Francisco 49ers finally selected him with the last overall pick, the rookie quarterback knew he could play in the NFL. He knew he belonged.
Purdy faced a scoreboard deficit on Sunday for the first time since entering the action in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins. The Las Vegas Raiders led the heavily-favored 49ers 24-14 entering halftime at Allegiant Stadium. That lead grew to 24-14, and it looked like a major upset was in the making.
The 49ers, riding an eight-game winning streak, remained calm. They believed in Purdy, who had confidently run the offense since taking over the starting role.
“I mean, I’ve always believed in myself from college to this point, preseason, all that kind of stuff,” Purdy told Albert Breer of TheMMQB. “I’ve always believed that I was good enough to play at this level, and all I needed was a shot and an opportunity. And so, for me, I don’t make it anything more than that, but I have guys around me, too. It’s not all Brock Purdy coming in and saving the day. I have a lot of leaders on this team, so I just gotta give them the ball, and they do the rest.”
Knowing that he wasn’t alone, Purdy kept the 49ers in the game with the defense struggling for the first time since the team’s last defeat, on October 23 against the Kansas City Chiefs. The unit allowed about 286 yards per game during the previous eight contests. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham and the Raiders offense racked up 500 total yards on the proud 49ers defense.
Purdy and his offense knew it was up to them if they wanted to keep the winning streak alive. And they knew they were up to the challenge.
“We have enough veterans on the team and leadership where guys like [RB Christian] McCaffrey and Juice [FB Kyle Juszczyk] and [TE George] Kittle and guys up front with [RT] Mike [McGlinchey] and [LT] Trent [Williams]like All right, we gotta put up points, and that’s it. So that’s sort of just where we were at with it, and we didn’t make it anything more than it was.”
The 49ers overcame the situation, trading punches with an underrated Raiders team and kicking a game-winning field goal in overtime to eliminate their one-time Bay Area rivals from playoff contention. It was a valuable learning experience for San Francisco’s defense and Purdy. That will only help the 49ers as they prepare for their playoff run.
Report it.

The 49ers were a happy bunch after knocking off the Washington Commanders 37-20 at Levi’s Stadium on Saturday, and it led to plenty of good material to come out of the locker room following the game. Players such as George Kittle and Nick Bosa were dressed up in Christmas-themed outfits when they spoke to reporters after the game, while the team in general was thrilled to be heading into Christmas with a win. As a special gift, the players will be able to rest on Christmas before getting back to a normal schedule as they prepare for the Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday. “Yeah, we’re off totally

Sunday’s 37-34 overtime battle between the 49ers and Raiders was one of the most entertaining games of the 2022 season, although it wasn’t expected to be that way at first. The 49ers were strong favorites (9.5 points) coming into the game after the Raiders made a switch at quarterback during the week from longtime starter Derek Carr to first-time starter Jarrett Stidham, but Stidham caught many by surprise — including maybe even the 49ers. — with how competitive he was able to keep the game. Stidham — and whether or not the 49ers underestimated him — was one of many interesting topics of discussion to come out of the 49ers’ locker room after the game. We’ll dive into that and much more in this version of 49ers Notebook. Stidham gave the 49ers all they had

San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy is still dealing with the oblique and rib injuries he sustained against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and played through against the Seattle Seahawks. Before Saturday’s game against the Washington Commanders, NFL insider Jay Glazer shared more information about the injury. “What people don’t know is that last game they played a couple of Thursdays ago in Seattle, he actually had a strained oblique,” Glazer said on FOX’s pre-game show, “and had some tears in the muscle fiber, and also an injury to his ribs, as well. An hour-and-a-half before the game, he couldn’t throw more than 10 yards. “He took a pain-killing

49ers TE George Kittle not sorry for ‘stealing’ touchdown from WR Ray-Ray McCloud as his chemistry with QB Brock Purdy grows

49ers tight end George Kittle left a football version of a lump of coal in one of his teammate’s stockings on Saturday, and he doesn’t seem the least bit sorry he did it. Kittle caught two touchdown passes in the 49ers’ 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders on Saturday, but the first one wasn’t supposed to go to him at all. It was intended for wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, but Kittle swooped in and took it, giving him a 34-yard touchdown that put the 49ers up 14-7 over the Commanders early in the third quarter. Video of the play shows Kittle and McCloud both running to the spot where Purdy threw the ball, but Kittle beat McCloud to the play, while McCloud was left wondering where Kittle came from and what he was
