Lamar Odom says he didn’t do drugs before overdose at the Nevada brothel and blames the owner

Lamar Odom opened up about his tumultuous life in the new Fox special Sex, Drugs and Kardashians, which aired on Monday night.

The 43-year-old former NBA star spoke with TMZ founder Harvey Levin about his struggles with addiction, his marriage to Khloe Kardashian and much more.

We’re breaking down the biggest revelations from the one-hour special below.

Lamar’s Doctors Didn’t Think He’d Walk Again After Brothel Overdose

After signing his divorce papers from Khloe Kardashian, Odom headed to the Bunny Ranch, a legal brothel outside of Las Vegas, where he would ultimately be found unresponsive.

‘All my doctors that were around me when– when the incident happened, like a walking miracle,’ Odom said.

‘When I came out of it, I was never supposed to walk again or talk,’ the NBA star said.

Meeting Khloe Kardashian

Lamar had been playing for the Los Angeles Lakers for nearly a decade when, in 2009, he went to a party held by his new teammate Ron Artest.

‘Ron Artest was having a welcome to LA party, I was sitting in the VIP … I was there with another woman, a really attractive woman, and I saw this girl,’ Odom began.

I recognize Rob Kardashian, but I didn’t know who Khloé was at that time. I [let her know] who I was and it’s crazy because after 30 days, we’d be married. That’s spooky,’ Odom admitted.

Praising Kris Jenner

When Levin asked her how Kris Jenner treated her, Odom revealed, ‘I used to call her ma. She showed a lot of love. She was cool. I loved her. We all got into business. It was a family business – you know that, Harvey.

I’m comfortable enough [for her to be my manager]. I’m happy enough to do it. … I made some money. I came out on the positive side,’ he added.

Odom continued, ‘I don’t think people really give them credit for their family dynamic. Family is going to go through s**t and I think that they’ve handled their s**t phenomenally well.’

Shooting Keeping Up With the Kardashians Spin-Off Khloe & Lamar

Khloe & Lamar debuted on E! in April 2011, a year and a half after they tied the knot in September 2009 after just a month of dating.

‘I was an amazing basketball player, but I know me marrying Khloé Kardashian gives me relevance in so many ways in the entertainment world,’ Odom said.

I knew what I signed up for. I was doing business with my wife. It’s her business, so I’m making it my business,’ he added.

Odom added that the Los Angeles Lakers were, ‘very supportive’ of the show and he even asked Lakers legend Kobe Bryant about it.

He was just like, “You know, if you bring it, [we] don’t care.” And I wound up winning the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award, so I knew he had a lot of respect for it. … That was the happiest I’ve ever been in my adult life. … She got everything I wanted,’ Odom said.

Lamar’s Descent Back Into Drugs… and Telling Khloe

Odom was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks although he did not perform well, revealing that he was in a ‘dark place’ after the 2011 death of his cousin.

He slid back into drug use, stating during the special, ‘Drugs — that was my girlfriend. I had a wife and cocaine.’

He said he finally told Khloe about his drug use, adding, ‘You can’t hide that forever. … She was hurt, but Khloé was a good wife. She wasn’t dismissive or [saying], ‘Get away from me.’ … She was protective and wanted to protect me even more. She [stood by me]. I mean behind the scenes, I put her through some s—t. Like s—t that y’all don’t know. … The stories that y’all don’t know is, like, really crazy.’

A Woman He Cheated With Called Khloe Because She Thought Odom Was Going To Kill Himself

Along with his drug addictions, Odom was dealing with sex addiction as well, both of which often converged.

He revealed, ‘Like what– what could I actually, like, tell Khloe to, like, leave her for a couple of hours to, like, even, like, leave to go do drugs with some random woman.’

‘Where the woman, I’m going so heavy with the drugs, the woman actually gets into my phone and actually calls Khloe. Like, “Yo, you gotta come get him. He’s f***ing gone crazy. He’s gonna kill himself.” Huh? And they took me to go get help that night,’ Odom revealed.

Lamar Reveals Kris Jenner Told Him Khloe Would Be At SoulCycle

Two years after Khloe initially filed for divorce from Odom, the basketball player was photographed seeing Khloe outside of SoulCycle, which ultimately led to allegations that he was ‘stalking’ her.

Odom admitted he’s, ‘a little foggy’ though, ‘as far as I can remember, she kind of hooked it up for me to meet Khloé down at SoulCycle.’

I got down there and she kind of treated me like she didn’t know me, which was a little bit hurtful. She was kind of, like, making a scene and then, like, paparazzi came out of nowhere. So I’m hurt by that. Then it kind of came out that I tried to put my hands on her or something like that – then I’m really hurt. I got a little defensive,’ he added.

When Levin adds it looked like Jenner ‘set him up,’ Odom added, ‘What would you be setting up? … What would you get out of that? Trying to ruin me or not make me want to come around no more or have people think about me a certain way?’

Lamar Thinks Bunny Ranch Owner Dennis Hof Tried To Kill Him The Night He Overdosed At The Brothel

The day Odom finally signed his divorce papers, he went to the Bunny Ranch in Crystal, Nevada, revealing that he told them to charge his credit card for $75,000 to keep it a secret that he was there.

The toxicology reports revealed Odom had cocaine in his system, but he swears he did not do cocaine that night, and alleges Dennis Hof, who owned the ranch and passed away in 2018, tried to kill him.

‘That motherf***er wanted to kill me,’ Odom said, though when Levin asked why he would want to kill him, Odom said, ‘I don’t know, Harvey. I don’t know. This is only what I can tell you. I went there, I didn’t do drugs that night. I wound up with drugs in my system.’

He added he was only there one night, adding, ‘There was only one night, as far as I’m concerned. I got there… Had a drink. And woke up three days later, ripping tubes outta my neck, not knowing how I got there. Unable to speak or– or walk.’

When Levin asked if he was ‘positive’ that he didn’t do any drugs the night he overdosed, Odom said, ‘As much as I’m positive, I’m a Black man sitting in front of you.’

Lamar’s Relapse Before Finally Getting Clean

After recovering from his ordeal at the ranch, he was in financial trouble that led him to sell his three NBA Championship rings.

That shows you how strong addiction is. We see it all the time. In Hollywood, we see it f***ing all the time. I’m just one of the lucky ones that it didn’t take,’ Odom said.

He added his, “love for life” and wanting to tell “the Lord thank you for sparing him” has helped him be sober today.

‘The thought of cocaine, as quick as I just said it, is as quick as it left my mind to do it. I’m from the street, like, I don’t even know how a motherf***er can put himself in the mix of any cocaine with the s**t that’s going on right now — all this fentanyl and stuff like that. It’s not even worth it,” he said.

Lamar Would Be Open To Possibly Reconciling With Khloe Kardashian

Odom revealed that Khloe was the only woman who made him feel ‘secure’ enough to get married.

He said he would, ‘of course’ like to reconcile with Khloe but he doesn’t feel he should reach out to her now.

I’m not a loser and I felt like I lost. I would love to just take Khloé out to dinner. … [But] I’m too shy and I’m a Scorpio and I hate being told no or being denied. I’m afraid,’ he said.

Lamar on Khloe’s Ex Tristan Thompson

Odom also opened up about Khloe’s most recent ex, Tristan Thompson, whom she dated on and off from 2016 until they finally split last year.

‘When she gets hurt, of course that hurts me. I think what hurts me more is that it’s not my place to protect her,’ he said.

‘I can only protect her if she says, “Lamar, I need your help with this,”‘ he added.

Lamar Gets His NBA Championship Rings Back… For Free

Long after selling his three NBA Championship rings off due to financial difficulties, a chance encounter with a Los Angeles Lakers fan led to him getting the rings back for free.

‘He’s like, “I got the f***ing Rings bro. I gotta get them back to where they belong,”‘ Odon said.

‘Like, what are you talking about, man? He was like, “f***ing championship ring.” This is how he was saying it. “f***ing championship ring, bro.” You gotta come get them,’ Odom explained with a smile.

‘I was like, “When do you want me to get ’em?”‘ Odom said, and when Levin asked if he charged Odom for the rings, he said, ‘No. He– he gave ’em to me for free.

That’s why Laker fans, y’all are the best fans ever. It’s funny, I didn’t wear ’em this much when I had ’em. It’s crazy now I always feel like they just like go with my– go with every outfit,’ he said, showing the rings to the camera.
